So, who will be first with an open chequebook? I'm expecting Malaysia to announce a significant order, but who else should do so. I don't think any of the M/E carriers are expected to place orders (although one can never tell?).

I seriously doubt there will be not a single Middle Eastern order. Don't many still have to specify the engines on a bunch of their orders? Hey its Singapore Air Show, why not order a few A380s!

Boeing noted a week or so ago they had a large 737 and 777 order with a "Malaysian airline" so it is likely MH is that customer.
Also, MH evidently is still deciding on whether or not to cancel their A380 order per recent news reports, so that might be in play which could result in the A350 and/or 747-8I joining their future fleet.

I'm increasingly wondering what they are going to do with all these aircraft. Don't get me wrong, I wish them all the best. But I wonder if the market is there for all these aircraft. It's not that they don't have any competition in Indonesia (Adam Air, Garuda for example)

Yup. Looks like Garuda Indonesia was the source of the 777s and the 737-800s and Lion Air is the source of the 737-900ERs. So that should cover the 85 sales Boeing said they would announce.

Interestingly in the original piece on Airbus's website it said that they were holding a press conf tomorrow morning (20/2) but it doesn't say that any more. I wonder if they were hoping to announce the MH order and it's not been finalised?
Paramount Airways is in an advanced stages of negotiations with aircraft manufacturers Airbus and Boeing for a $1 billion order of 15 wide-bodied aircraft. The deal is likely to be announced shortly.
